So how about that alliteration? My objective was not to have a catchy title. Really it wasn’t. I wanted to give you words that describe self-leadership that are common and familiar. If you are like me, you probably don’t hear or use the term self-leadership very often but the truth is, we do use it every day and may even take it for granted.
Leadership
In my recent blog post on leadership,
- Be confident that leaders influence.
- Influence will encourage desired change.
- Therefore our influence as leaders will make change possible.
- Change makes success possible.
- Each of us entrepreneurs have this power to be influential leaders.
- Each of us can be successful.
I wrote the above to stress that by using our current leadership skills we can become successful entrepreneurs. I hope this makes sense to you and you believe it. But even before we can lead others we must lead ourselves.
Self-leadership
Self-leadership is intentionally influencing your thinking, feelings and actions to accomplish your goals. There are specific actions you must do in order to lead yourself, self-lead. As an entrepreneur, I’m sure you already possess the following:
- self-awareness
- self-goal setting
- self-motivation
- positive self-talk
Just as we have developed translatable leadership skills over our lifetime we have also developed translatable self-leadership skills. We have each learned to be intentional in our thoughts, feelings and actions. We have each learned the power and value of influence as well as our individual way of influencing. And we each have learned how to direct our intentions and influence inwardly. Intentionally. Influencing. Inward. Self-leadership. Self-leadership is essential to becoming a successful entrepreneur.
Which of the 4 qualities above is your strongest? Please comment below. My strongest is self-goal setting.
